Place of Origin: China around two thousand years. Even laying claim to the site of China’s oldest wild tea tree, roughly 1700 years old. The oldest cultivated tree, a famous relative of the wild one, has for over 800 years, been a major source of Yunnan tea products. Due to the unique growing environment in Yunnan, the high altitude and mountain mists protecting the plants from excessive sunlight, the Yunnan Camelia Sinensis tea species grows with especially large leaves compared to other regions. These ideal conditions for tea leaf and bud development are all part of its haughty distinction, highly prized by the Ming Emperors for its uniquely malty and peppery taste, even now much of the cultivating and harvesting from the Yunnan province is still done by hand, a vital element of its premium quality allure.
